According to scouting reports from various sources Myck Kabongo is a fast, athletic point guard that relies on his speed to beat his opponents. His jumpshot appears to be suspect as the majority of his scoring is in the lane and at the rim. Unfortunately, when he plays bigger, more physical opponents his ability to finish at the rim is greatly diminished as he is turned into a  jumpshooter. He likes to gamble on defense rather than body his man up and play physically, it is worth noting that his 6-7 wingspan do enable him to do this rather effectively at times.

From the outside looking in, Kabongo’s shooting mechanics look good, he may be able to develop his game with the aid of additional playing time on the floor and a well seasoned shooting coach. His style of play reminds one of a Jason Williams at times, but perhaps not as flashy…

Q: Where will he go in the 2013 NBA Draft?
A: Somewhere from #35-#45

Key Matchups:
12/21/11 – #6 North Carolina, 83-62 L
15 min, 0-2 FG, 1-2 FT, 1 AST, 1 STL, 1 F, 4 TO, 1 PTS

1/14/12 – #9 Missouri, 84-73 L
39 min, 5-11 FG, 2-2 FT, 10 AST, 1 STL, 3 PF, 4TO, 12 PTS

1/21/12 – #7 Kansas, 69-66 L
25 min, 1-4 FG, 1-2 FT, 4 AST, 5 PF, 3 TO, 3 PTS

As you can see, Myck struggled against top-tier talent during his freshman year, yet he was able to get other players going during his match-up with Missouri and somewhat during one of his match-ups with Kansas.

While his Sophomore season was shortened due to a 23 game suspension for receiving impermissible benefits and then provided false statements about the situation. [Details] Myck still showed the propensity to struggle from the field during seemingly big games, only now he displayed the ability to get to the free throw line and convert.

2/16/13 – #14 Kansas, 73-47 L
38 min, 2-10 FG, 9-10 FT, 3 REB, 0 AST, 2 PF, 3TO, 13 PTS

2/23/13 – #13 Kansas St, 81-69 L
36 min, 8-12 FG, 6-10 FT, 6 REB, 2 AST, 3 TO, 24 PTS

3/2/13 – #15 Oklahoma St., 78-65 L
36 min, 2-7 FG, 3-5 FT, 5 REB, 8 AST, 4 STL, 3 PF, 7 TO, 7 PTS

Not being shown is his 0-12 performance versus Texas Tech …

Worth noting: he shot 9-37 from the field over his final 4 games of the 2012-13 season … he also shot 23-25 FT’s during that span …
