Random repost from my inbox

Here is an old nugget of info for email marketing campaigns, I happened upon it just today and I think it was … how do you say it … kismet (?) as we have been discussing reorganizing our e-newsletter as well as our launch date/time.

***
Content sharing site Gather recently posted an excellent summary of the latest thinking on when to send your email blasts:
• Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays are all optimal days to send emails because people have organized their work week and email inboxes.
• Every day has its pros and cons. You should decide on the best time and day depending on your circumstances.
• Monday pros and cons: Pro: After the weekend, many people make it a priority to organize their inboxes. Con: They erase many emails to get organized.
• Best approach for Mondays: Late in the morning just before lunch, when people have time to check their inboxes and have already cleaned out their weekend dumps.
• Tuesday pros and cons: Pro: People have organized their work week and have time to check their inboxes. Con: It’s too early to send campaigns geared to trigger action on the weekend.
• Best approach for Tuesdays: Campaigns that aim for recipients to take action during the week.
• Wednesday and Thursday pros and cons: Pros: More time for emails. Planning for the weekend. Cons: Only 2 days left in the work week, and no time left for emails.
• Best approach for Wednesday, Thursday: Keep your messages lighter and not as pushy.
• Friday pros and cons: Pro: There’s not as much email in their inbox. Con: Many people are so busy they don’t check emails on Friday.
• Weekends: Pros: Very little email is sent on weekends, but people do read their emails. Cons: Can look like you’re too pushy and intrusive.
• Best approach for weekends: Don’t send any, unless your message will be most valued if received on weekends.

So there you have it, keep those boxes of incoming mail clean for the weekends!

NaNoWriMo – updates

Well here we have it, about halfway through the NaNoWriMO, while I trail by a lone missed day at this point, I still need to get caught up before the November 30th deadline.

For those of you not in the know… NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month – the challenge to put down 50,000 words in 30 days, essentially putting you on the path to starting (or finishing) that special novel you’ve always had in your head.

It has been a few years since I had wanted to jump on this, while I’m not exactly sure what it was that got my motor running this season, it has been a worthwhile experience for me to undertake. After I’ve gone through a few more hurdles, I will begin posting the initial rough draft of this novel in progress. (warning: it will be a rough draft with NO grammar or spelling checks completed at this time.)
(*warning #2: it is a horror novel with some graphic violence.)

Okay, time to start writing again!

Jazzbot finalists – unofficial

Those that follow the Jazzbot blogger process on UtahJazz360.com will know that every season we hold a writing contest for new official Utah Jazz Fan Bloggers – this year’s coming 2 months later than the norm due to us using a new backend and overall approach to the fan site and experience.

Well, we sorted to 95 blog entries and knocked them down to a final list of 30 potential suitors, here are the links in order of my fave to least fave (I am going to be lazy initially and NOT hyperlink them all as I have much work to do still, perhaps later, until then copy and paste the link into your browser and tell me which ones you hate, like, and feel warm and/or fuzzy about):

Egg Shen, Chinese Black Magic

Totally random, I like to watch movies while I do cardio and happened to be watching Big Trouble in Little China so I thought I should share this one scene I found on YouTube.

At the tail end of this sequence Jack Burton is about to get flattened by an evil warrior of mythical proportion, will he survive?

Another Day Off: Cats

And now, 7:49 of funny cats… worth skipping around and watching.

Question: Am I getting lazy with blog posts lately, or just more efficient?

Blowout of the Weak

This week in the NFL, we saw several blowouts, but which one really jumped out at us and said it was truly “The Blowout of the Weak”?

chris-johnsonIn week one we saw a Tennessee Titans team run buck-wild over the haphazard Oakland Raiders team 38-13, Chris Johnson going off for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns on 27 carries (including 4 receptions for 8 yards). The Raiders would total 136 yards on the ground with 180 yards by air (286 net yards on offense) to go along with two turnovers and a missed field goal.

Then there was the 49ers embarrassment of a showing in the great Northwest city of Seattle, a game in which one of the really good running backs of the National Football League carries the ball only 17 times for a measly 38 yards (6 receptions for 45 yards); a game that saw a the 49ers convert only 14 total first downs all day. Really a big difference maker in this one were the two interceptions thrown by Alex Smith resulting in 52 return yards by the Seahawk defense.  It seemed like the Niners could do nothing right on opening week, dropping a 31-6 ball game to a team that is destined to win but maybe 3 games all year (the Seahawks that is).

But this week, was truly a showing of weak.

cards falcons

41-7 Falcons romp the hapless Cardinals. Could this one hurt me anymore? The Cards somehow managed to only move the chains 11 times… 11 first downs … wow, no matter how you say it, it’s pathetic isn’t it? Tim Hightower provided some spark for the red-birds with an 80-yard touchdown scamper (totalling 115 yds on 11 carries), a feat which matched the third longest run in franchise history.

Matt Ryan tied a career high with 3 touchdown passes to go along with his 225 yards passing (21/32).

Did I mention that the Cards were 0/8 on 3rd down conversions? Meanwhile the Falcons were 11/17 on their side, en route to a total 33 first downs in the shellacking.

Story of the game: 222 net rushing yards by the Falcons, which in turn lead to 39:13 time of possession (20:47 for Arizona). Micahel Turner had 9 rushes for 75 yards before being take out of the game due to injury while Jason Snelling (third stringer) filled in with 129 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 carries of his own (throw in 5 receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown to boot!).

Story of the game (pt 2): 3 – 84
What does “3 – 84” refer to? How about 3 interceptions for 84 return yards. That stings a bit don’t it? Derek Anderson threw a pair while rookie Max Hall was allowed to get on the field and throw one of his own.

Bottom Line:
You can’t throw picks, allow for two-hundo yards on the ground, and expect to be within 20 points (let alone 30 points).

I’m wondering what it will be like this week at Arizona Cardinal practices…

Highlights (?)

Stay tuned for more “Blowouts of the Weak!”
